Documentary “An Earthly Life”

Jauke Boerdam for RTV-Oost | 2013

“23 families from all over the Netherlands, with no construction experience, are building an eco-friendly residential neighborhood in Olst. The houses are being built as sustainably as possible, using materials such as car tires and sand. Thanks to the solar panels and the huge windows facing the sun, these homes require less supplemental heating than other homes. Volunteers from all over the world come to help and learn how to build this type of earth house. In the documentary, you’ll see how these people, who share a passion for sustainable living, live and build together.”

For this beautiful and poignant documentary, Jauke Boerdam followed several families during the first two years of construction. What was it like to camp next to the construction site and live there with the whole family?
