It feels good to be able to make or repair something yourself. For the Aardehuizers, that was one of the main reasons they wanted to build their own homes. So it makes sense that some of our residents are also involved with the Repair Café in Olst. Every month, the Goede Buren storefront—where the repairers have a permanent home—is bustling with activity.
Like every Repair Café, this Olster initiative is no ordinary repair shop. Anyone who brings in a broken appliance works with the repairer to figure out what’s wrong, and in the process learns how to fix the problem themselves next time. Those who are satisfied with the result make a voluntary contribution, based on their means, toward the costs of keeping the Repair Café running and accessible to everyone.
