Sustainable and Resilient Communities Project
Aardehuis Goes International
The Aardehuizen are participating in the European SURE project (Sustainable and Resilient Communities).
SURE brings together people who are interested in sustainability, local resilience, and community-driven change—areas in which we at Aardehuizen have many years of experience.
Through this project, we are working with our European partners in Hungary, Austria, and Poland to create a showcase of the possibilities for building sustainable and resilient communities. In doing so, we are using real-world examples to identify remaining barriers and explore ways to overcome them.
We do this by focusing on three main themes: sustainable housing and self-sufficient living, sustainable food production, and green energy communities. These themes are reflected in the project logo.
About ten activities will take place around these three main themes through December 2027. Some will be held online (with over 100 people at a time) and others in person, with participants from all over Europe.
In May 2027, it will be our turn. We will be organizing a two-day workshop at the Aardehuizen in Olst, focusing both on the practical aspects of building with natural and secondhand materials and on developing a resilient local community.
